охлюв

Bulgarian

Etymology

Borrowed from Greek χοχλίας (chochlías), a dialectal variation of Ancient Greek κοχλίας (kokhlías, snail) (whence Old Church Slavonic кохль (koxlĭ), Latin cōchlea (snail)). Originally referring to the spiral shell of the snail, later generalized to mean the whole animal.
