Etymology
Per the Bulgarian Etymological Dictionary (BED), this is a Balkan word that's probably a Greek-Albanian-Bulgarian hybrid. BED derives it from the stem πλακ- (plak-) of Greek πλακώνω (plakóno, “to crush, to press; to attack by surprise”), whence also Albanian pllakos and Aromanian aplucusescu.
Balkan cognates include Serbo-Croatian пљачка, Macedonian пљачка (pljačka), Albanian plaçkë, Greek πλιάτσικο (pliátsiko), Turkish plaçka and Romanian pleașcă. The latter is borrowed from Bulgarian, and according to some of the sources quoted in BED, it's possible that so is the Albanian word.
