сұлтан

Kazakh
Etymology
Borrowed from Classical Persian سُلْطَان sg (sultān, “a sultan”), from Arabic سُلْطَانٌ m sg (sulṭānun, “a sultan”, indefinite nominative).
Nucleus of the second syllable had become back -а- (-a-) under the influence of original Arabic emphatic onset ـطـ (-ṭ-). Therefore, the first syllable had been harmonised.
