From ӏуашъхьэ (ʼwaŝḥɛ, mount) +‎ мафэ (mafɛ, blessed); hence literally, blessed mountain, happy mountain.[1] Cognate with Kabardian ӏуащхьэмахуэ (ʼwaśḥɛmaxʷɛ).
