From ӏуашъхьэ (ʼwaŝḥɛ, “mount”) +‎ мафэ (mafɛ, “blessed”); hence literally, “blessed mountain, happy mountain”.[1] Cognate with Kabardian ӏуащхьэмахуэ (ʼwaśḥɛmaxʷɛ).
