Etymology
From *ündäš- (“to greet; call one another”), reciprocal of *ündä- (“to call, address, speak to”), derived from Proto-Turkic *ǖn (“voice, sound”).
Cognate with Kazakh үндесу (ündesu, “to call to one another”), Tatar дәшәргә (däşärgä, “to address, greet”), Bashkir өндәшеү (öndəşew), Uyghur ئۈندەشمەك (ündeshmek), Khakas ӱндезерге (ündezerge, “to great, address”).
