Etymology

From *ündäš- (to greet; call one another), reciprocal of *ündä- (to call, address, speak to), derived from Proto-Turkic *ǖn (voice, sound).

Cognate with Kazakh үндесу (ündesu, to call to one another), Tatar дәшәргә (däşärgä, to address, greet), Bashkir өндәшеү (öndəşew), Uyghur ئۈندەشمەك (ündeshmek), Khakas ӱндезерге (ündezerge, to great, address).
