הִזְדַּקֵּן • (hizdakén) (hitpa'el construction)

1. (intransitive) to age, grow old, become elderly
   • 1973, Alon Oleartchik of Kaveret (band), ילד מזדקן (yéled mizdakén):

     ילד מזדקן / ילד מתקלקל / לומד את הפרינציפ / רק אחרי שהוא נופל.

     yéled mizdakén / yéled mitkalkél / loméd et haprintsípt / raq akharé shehu nofél.

     A boy is getting old / a boy is getting spoiled / [he] learns the principle / [but] only after he falls.

     עַכְשָׁו נִשְׁאַרְנוּ לְבַדֵּנוּ בַּקֵּן / אֲבָל אֲנַחְנוּ בְּיַחַד / חַבְּקִי אוֹתִי חָזָק תַּגִּידִי לִי כֵּן / אַל תִּדְאֲגִי בְּיַחַד כֵּיף לְהִזְדַּקֵּן.

     'akhsháv nish'árnu l'vadénu bakén / 'avál 'anákhnu b'yákhad / khab'kí 'otí khazák tagídi lí kén / 'al tid'agí b'yákhad kéif l'hizdakén.

     Now we are left alone in the nest, / But we are together. / Hug me tight, tell me yes, / Don't worry, it's fun to grow old together.
