כ־ר־ז
Hebrew
Etymology
From Aramaic כְּרַז / ܟܪܰܙ (kraz, “to preach”), from Ancient Greek κηρύσσειν (kērússein, “to preach”).[1][2] Cf. Daniel 3:4[1][2] and 5:29.[2]
Alternatively, instead of Ancient Greek, it is also suggested it might be borrowed from Old Persian.[2][3]
Compare Ge'ez ከረዘ (käräzä) and Arabic كَرَزَ (karaza).
