Etymology
Formed in Modern Hebrew as a compound of מִי (mi, “who”) + שֶׁ־ (she-, “that, which”) + הוּא (hu, “he, it”) by analogy with Mishnaic מַשֶּׁהוּ (máshehu, “something”). By surface analysis, מִי + ־שֶׁהוּ.
