שחמט
Hebrew
Etymology
Probably from Russian ша́хматы (šáxmaty, “chess”), from Persian شاه مات (šâh mât, “checkmate”). The final stress may be due to the predominant Hebrew accent and/or influenced by German Schachmatt (“checkmate”).
