إثمد

Arabic

Etymology

By form a metathesis away from Coptic ⲉⲥⲑⲏⲙ (esthēm), though derivation from an unattested oblique δ (d) form of Ancient Greek στίμμι (stímmi) has been suggested, ultimately from Egyptian sdm, possibly also conflated with Egyptian msdmt.
