Etymology

Literally “southern frozen ocean”, from بَحْر (bahr, sea, ocean) +‎ مُنْجَمِد (munjamid, frozen, congealed) +‎ جُنُوبی (junūbī, south), a partial calque of Persian اقیانوس منجمد جنوبی (oqyânus-e monjamed-e janubi).
