Etymology

Inherited from Proto-Turkic *tekne (trough);[1] cognate with Azerbaijani təkne, təhnə, Chuvash такана (tak̬ana) and Kazakh тегене (tegene).

Noun

تكنه • (tekne) (definite accusative تكنه‌یی (tekneyi), plural تكنه‌لر (tekneler))

  1. trough, a long, narrow container made of wood, open on top, for feeding or watering animals
    Synonym: یالاق (yalak)
  2. tank, vat, tub, keeve, basin, any large, open container or pool for storing water or other liquids
  3. hull, the watertight body of a ship or boat, which may be open on top or covered with a deck
    Synonym: قارن (karn, karın)
  4. (by extension) vessel, craft, any vehicle designed for transportation on water, such as a boat
    Synonym: فلك (fülk)
  5. bout, a bulge or widening in a musical instrument, such as either of the two bulges of a guitar
