Etymology

From the Arabic verb إتكأ (itakâ, leaned on). This root has also spawned متکا (motakâ, bolster pillow) from Arabic مُتَّكَأ (muttakaʔ, a place where one reclines; pad, bolster, cushion) and expresses religious symbolism associated with it through the life-sustaining concept of “leaning upon God”.
