Etymology 1

From the root خ ص ص (ḵ ṣ ṣ). Sense 5 is used in the Shi'ite vernacular and derives from the people that were closer to the Shi'ite's Imams (their "private" (people)), as opposed to the general public (اَلْعَامَّة (al-ʕāmma)).
