Etymology

Inherited from Old Anatolian Turkish دَكْ (“equal; weight”), from Proto-Turkic *teŋ (“equal”). Cognate with Bashkir тиң (tiñ), Chuvash тан (tan), Kazakh тең (teñ), Kumyk тенг (teñ), Kyrgyz тең (teŋ), Turkmen deň, Uyghur تەڭ (teng), Uzbek teng and Yakut тэҥ (teñ).
