    • c. 1260s, Jalāl ad-Dīn Mohammad Rūmī, translated by Reynold A. Nicholson, مثنوی معنوی [Masnavi-ye-Ma'navi], volume II, verse 561:
      باز میگشتم که او خود واقف است
      زین قضا راضی است مردی عارف است
      bāz mē-gaštam ki ō xwad wāqif ast
      z-īn qazā rāzī ast mar-ē 'ārif ast
      I was going back, (thinking), ‘He himself is aware;
      he is satisfied with this (Divine) judgement: he is a man that knows (God)’.
