Ultimately from Ancient Greek Σεβαστεία (Sebasteía), from Σεβαστός (Sebastós) + -εια (-eia, -ia: forming place names), from σεβᾰστός (sebăstós, venerable, august) used as a calque of Latin Augustus. Doublet of سیواس.
