From Arabic قَيْسارِيّة (qaysāriyya) and Byzantine Greek Καισάρεια (Kaisáreia), from Latin Caesarea, from Caesar + -ēa (“-ia: forming place names”) on the pattern of Alexandrea etc. and in honor of the Roman emperor Augustus. Doublet of قیصری.
