Etymology

Inherited from Proto-Turkic *bālak (baby animal), a development of *bāla (young animal; child). For the change of initial consonant /b/ > /m/, compare مقره (makara, pulley), منتشه (menteşe, hinge), منكشه (menekşe, violet) and میان (mıyan, licorice).
