Inherited from Middle Hindi پهاٿک (phaṭk /phāṭak/), from Sanskrit *फाट्टक्क (*phāṭṭakka), compound of *प्रहट्ट (*prahaṭṭa) + हट्ट (haṭṭa).[1]
