From Proto-Iranian *kalā-, *kallā-, *kālā- (“head”), probably from a continuum of sound-symbolic Iranian words denoting round objects of unknown further origin.[1] Note, however, phonetic and semantic similarities to Proto-Balto-Slavic *galˀwā́ˀ (“head”).
