Inherited from Prakrit 𑀕𑀽𑀳 (gūha), from Sanskrit गूथ (gūtha, “excrement”), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *guHtʰás. Cognate with Saraiki گُھوں (ghūṉ), Sindhi گُوڻهُ (gū̃hu) and Urdu گُو (gū).
