From ܓܫܘܫܐ (gāšōšā, “spy”), from the root ܓ ܫ ܫ related to spying + the abstract noun ending -ܘܬܐ (-ūṯā). Compare Arabic جَاسُوسِيَّة (jāsūsiyya).
