From Prakrit *आडु (āḍu, “peach”), a Wanderwort of unknown origin. See there for more. Cognate with Classical Persian آلُو (ālū), whence Hindi आलू (ālū). Also cognate within Indo-Aryan with Punjabi ਆੜੂ (āṛū) and Sindhi آڙو.
