Derived from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀓𑀡𑁆𑀳 (kaṇha, “Krishna”) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-), from Sanskrit कृष्ण (kṛṣṇa). Doublet of कृष्ण (kŕṣṇa). Cognate to Gujarati કાનો (kāno), કાનુડો (kānuḍo), Assamese কানু (kanu).
