Inherited from Prakrit किरिआण n (kiriāṇa, “goods for sale”), from Sanskrit क्रयाणक (krayāṇaka, “goods for sale”), from the root क्री (krī, “to buy”), from Proto-Indo-European *kʷreyh₂- (“to buy”). Related to क्रय (kray) and कीनना (kīnnā).
