Etymology
From Proto-Indo-Iranian *gadʰí, from Proto-Indo-European *gʷm̥dʰí (2nd person singular imperative of *gʷem- (“to come, arrive, go”)). Cognate with Avestan 𐬔𐬀𐬌𐬛𐬍 (gaidī, 2nd person singular imperative of 𐬔𐬀𐬨- (gam-)). Also compare the dialectal form गधि (gadhí) which preserved the original aspirated voiced stop without weakening it.
