चरती

Hindi
Pronunciation
- (Delhi) IPA(key): /t͡ʃəɾ.t̪iː/, [t͡ʃɐɾ.t̪iː]
Etymology 1
- Perhaps from चरना (carnā, “to graze, to eat in a crude way”), formed to resemble बरती (bartī), its antonym.
- Alternatively, from चरत (carat, “a day not laid down as one for fasting; not observing fast on a day laid down for fasting”) + -ई (-ī). However, चरत (carat) itself is probably a back-formation from चरती (cartī).
