Etymology

Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘕𑘮𑘰𑘩𑘹𑘽 (jahāleṃ), 𑘕𑘰𑘮𑘩𑘹𑘽 (jāhaleṃ),[1] from 𑘕𑘰𑘩𑘹𑘽 (jāleṃ) +‎ *𑘁𑘮𑘩𑘹𑘽 (*āhaleṃ).[2]

  • *𑘁𑘮𑘩𑘹𑘽 (*āhaleṃ) is the regularly inflected perfective of the defective verb 𑘁𑘮𑘜𑘹 (āhaṇe).[2][3]

Cognate with Sindhi ڄائو / ॼाओ, Konkani जाले (jāle, perfective of जाव्चे (j̈āvce, to happen)), जाल्लो (jāllo, happened, done, adjective).
