Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘥𑘰𑘝𑘰 (bhātā, “quiver”), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀪𑀢𑁆𑀣𑀸 (bhatthā, “bellows”), from Sanskrit भस्त्रा (bhastrā, “bag, bellows”).
