Etymology
Compound of भोला (bholā) + नाथ (nātha, “lord”). The first part is probably inherited from Proto-Indo-Aryan *bʰawras (“dawn”) (whence also Bengali ভোর (bhōr), Hindi भोर (bhor, “dawn”)), as Shiva is the husband of Ushas, goddess of dawn.
