Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit *𑀫𑀼𑀓𑁆𑀓 (*mukka), from Dravidian. Cognate with Punjabi ਮੁੱਕਾ (mukkā), Nepali मुक्का (mukkā), Gujarati મુક્કો (mukko), Tamil முட்டி (muṭṭi, “to hit”).
