Usage notes
With reference to the modern Bengali alphabet, this term refers to the letters য (jo) [as well as য় (ẏo)], র (ro), ল (lo), ব (bo), and according to some sources হ (ho). In reference to Sanskrit written in the Eastern Nagari script, the term refers to য (ya), র (ra), ল (la) and ৱ (va), as well as the rarer ল় (ḷa); it is also applied to their equivalents in other Indic scripts.
