Inherited from Prakrit 𑀖𑀟𑀻 (ghaḍī), from Sanskrit घटी (ghaṭī, pot, water-clock), the feminine form of घट (ghaṭa, pot). Cognate with Odia ଘଡ଼ୀ (ghaṛi). Doublet of ঘড়া (ghoṛa, large earthen water pot).
