Inherited from Prakrit 𑀉𑀅𑀚𑁆𑀛𑀸𑀅 (uajjhāa), 𑀉𑀚𑁆𑀛𑀸𑀅 (ujjhāa), from Sanskrit उपाध्याय (upādhyāya, “teacher [of the Vedas]”). Sense 2 is a semantic loan from Hindustani اوجھا / ओझा (ojhā). Doublet of ઉપાધ્યાય (upādhyāya) and ખોજા (khojā).
