From દફન (daphan) +‎ -આવવું (-āvvũ) by analogy with Classical Persian دَفْن کَرْدَن (dafn kardan). Compare Hindustani دَفْنانا / दफ़नाना (dafnānā).

Usage notes

  • This and the related term દાટવું (dāṭvũ) are both used to refer to burying things. However, દફનાવવું (daphnāvvũ) is only used to refer to humans and the body must be completely buried, whereas with દાટવું (dāṭvũ) it can be used for anything and the object can be partially or fully buried.
