Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀲𑁂𑀚𑁆𑀚𑀸 (sejjā), from Sanskrit *शेय्या (śeyyā). Compare the attested Sanskrit शय्या (śayyā́).[1] Cognate with Dhivehi އެނދު (eⁿdu), Marathi शेज (śej̈), Sinhalese ඇඳ (æⁿda).
