Derived from Prakrit 𑀯𑀢𑁆𑀣 (vattha, cloth), from Sanskrit वस्त्र (vastra, cloth). Doublet of వస్త్రము (vastramu), a tatsama. Cognate with Kannada ಬಟ್ಟೆ (baṭṭe).
