Etymology 1

From Proto-Tai *kiːꟲ (how many; several),[1] from Middle Chinese (MC kj+jX). The tone of Thai กี่ [kiːᴮ¹] shows irregularity as a reflex of Proto-Tai *kiːꟲ.[1]

Cognate with Northern Thai ᨠᩦ᩵, ᦂᦲᧈ (k̇ii¹), Khün ᨠᩦ᩵, Tai Nüa ᥐᥤᥱ (), Ahom 𑜀𑜣 (), Zhuang geij.
