Etymology
From Old Khmer jum, juṃ, juṃm, cuṃ (“about, round; to encircle, to ring, to surround; to group together, to embody, to include, to unite; etc”). Compare Modern Khmer ជុំ (cum), extended as ប្រជុំ (prɑcum), from which Thai ประชุม (bprà-chum) was derived. Cognate with Isan ซุม, Lao ຊຸມ (sum), Northern Thai ᨩᩩᨾ (cum⁴), Khün ᨩᩩᨾ (cum⁴), Lü ᦋᦳᧄ (tsum), Tai Dam ꪏꪴꪣ (ꞌsúm), Shan ၸုမ်း (tsúm).
