Cognate with Isan บก, Lao ບົກ (bok), Northern Thai ᨷᩫ᩠ᨠ (bok¹), Khün ᨷᩫ᩠ᨠ (bok⁴), Lü ᦷᦢᧅ (ḃok), Tai Dam ꪶꪚꪀ (bốc), Shan မူၵ်း (múuk, “to diminish”), Tày bốc, Zhuang mbuk (“to dry up”) (dialectal) and mboek (“land; to decline (water level)”) (dialectal).
