From Proto-Tai *ɟm̩.rukᴰ (tomorrow). /-k/ becomes /-ŋ/ due to assimilation with นี้ (níi, this).[1]

Cognate with Northern Thai ᨻᩕᩪᨠ or ᨽᩪᨠ, Lao ພຸກ (phuk) (in ພຸກນີ້ (phuk nī)), ᦘᦳᧅ (phuk), Shan ၽုၵ်ႈ (phūk), Zhuang byug in ngoenzbyug (dialectal).
