Etymology
From Proto-Tai *ɟm̩.rukᴰ (“tomorrow”). Cognate with Thai พรุ่ง (prûng), Lao ພຸກ (phuk) (in ພຸກນີ້ (phuk nī)), Lü ᦘᦳᧅ (phuk), Shan ၽုၵ်ႈ (phūk), Zhuang byug in ngoenzbyug (dialectal). The simplex is commonly prefixed by ᩅᩢ᩠ᨶ (wan, “day”) without any change in meaning.
