Etymology 1
From Proto-Tai *rwɯəŋᴬ (“gutter; trough”).[1]
In Southwestern Tai, cognate with Lao ຮາງ (hāng), Shan ႁၢင်း (háang), Ahom 𑜍𑜂𑜫 (raṅ).
In Northern Tai, possibly cognate with Zhuang luengq (“gap”) or Zhuang luengx (“ditch between ridges”).
