From Proto-Tai *ŋwaːᴬ (yesterday).[1] The final -n in this word is unetymological and was acquired under the influence of the ensuing deictic นี้ (níi, this), as in เมื่อวานนี้ (mʉ̂ʉa-waan-níi, this past yesterday).[2][3]
