Cognate with Northern Thai ᨻᩯ, Khün ᨻᩯ, Lao ແພ (phǣ), ᦶᦗ (pae), Shan ပႄး (páae), Tai Nüa ᥙᥥᥰ (), Phake ပေ (pe), Ahom 𑜆𑜦𑜧 (), Zhuang bez (dialectal), Old Khmer (banana-leaf platter on which offerings are presented), Modern Khmer ផែ (phae).
