ဂူ

Burmese

Etymology

According to MED, borrowed from Pali guhā. However, STEDT considers this to be a native term inherited from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *kwar (hole, orifice, innards), whence Mizo [Term?] (kua, hole), Old Chinese (OC *kʰloːnʔ, “hole, hollow”). Note also similarities to (OC *kʰluːd, “cave”).
