ညှိုး
Burmese
Pronunciation
- IPA(key): /ɲ̊ó/
- Romanization: MLCTS: hnyui: • ALA-LC: ññhuiʺ • BGN/PCGN: hnyo: • Okell: hnyoù
Etymology 1
From Proto-Tibeto-Burman *s-n(j/r)əw (“dark, withered, evil”); compare Jingpho [script needed] (nyui, “faded, wilted, withered”) (STEDT).
Despite MED erroneously grouping the "second finger" sense in Etymology 2 with the "wilt" sense, the two are etymologically distinct from each other, as corroborated by STEDT.
