From Old Georgian ბაზმაკი (bazmaḳi). For the development of the ending see -აკი (-aḳi).

ბაზმა • (bazma)

  1. (dated) a small oil lamp, typically used to light an icon in a church
  2. (dialectal) burning walnut placed before a child ill with smallpox, scarlet fever or measles, to save it from death
