From Angkorian Old Khmer vvak, vvāk, vok, bok (“to come together, to assemble; group, gathering”), from Pre-Angkorian Old Khmer vok. Cognate with Thai พวก (pûuak), Lao ພວກ (phūak), Malay puak.
